- Wireless broadband Internet access with alliance partner Motorola
- Large-scale customized database and applications solutions, such as for inventory tracking, online promotions, sales analysis and more
- Network services, including web site development and hosting, application hosting, domain name services, and server co-location services

Company history
Pixius Communications was originally established as a different entity in the late 1990s. Its mission was to provide custom software solutions. A group of experienced business and real estate entrepreneurs founded the firm because they needed certain services within their own business operations.
The company soon evolved to take advantage of new technologies and to meet the growing demand for Internet services. It acquired several smaller Internet Service Providers (ISPs) across Kansas and in North Dakota. A key company strategy was the deployment of what Pixius calls a "simple wireless network," using wireless broadband. This technology provides for superior service and quick deployment, not only in cities, but also in rural areas or areas not traditionally reached by other broadband solutions.
Recently, Pixius acquired Infinetivity, an ISP and software development company in Burnsville, Minn. The acquisition provided several strategic advantages. Infinetivity was formed in early 2001 and had quickly grown to be one of the largest ISPs in the Minneapolis region. Also, its expertise in software development, application hosting, and web site development and hosting had earned it an impressive list of Fortune 500 clients.
Pixius is aggressively expanding its wireless network. The company is also reviewing other acquisitions to enhance its data communications expertise.
Leading today in technology and service
Pixius' products and services incorporate the latest technology. Services are secure, reliable and competitively priced. Pixius can provide businesses with virtually all Internet-based requirements, as well as offering consumers the best in broadband Internet service and speed.
The company's leadership team has positioned Pixius for continued growth, instilling a culture of smart problem solving, attention to detail, and being champions for the customer. They also bring to Pixius real-world experience and insights gained from growing their own companies. In addition to a strong executive team, the daily management team is made up of technology experts. In fact, the entire Pixius team has a wealth of knowledge regarding technology, development, deployment and customer service. Few other companies can boast such strong resources.
Pixius, founded in 2000, is locally owned and headquartered in Wichita, Kan. The company also has offices in Junction City, Kan. and Burnsville, Minn.
Innovative technology solutions
Wireless broadband Internet connectivity
Pixius is providing the latest in high-speed wireless broadband Internet connections for the Wichita metro area and nearby Kansas communities. The company's wireless Internet solution -- called Extend -- means a new and better choice for consumers and businesses to replace slow dial-up services, and a next-generation alternative to cable and digital subscriber line (DSL) services.
In fact, some users may have never before had the option for high-speed connections -- a must to take advantage of all today's Internet has to offer.
For about the same price as cable or DSL, Pixius' wireless broadband solution provides fast and reliable Internet access. Data download rates can range from 250 Kbps to 1.5 Mbps, depending on the service option and other factors. Upload rates range from 250 Kbps to 1.5 Mbps. In fact, for individual users, rates can run as high as 20 Mbps. And, unlike some broadband services, these transmission rates don't fluctuate.
Pixius' technology partner is Motorola, a company known worldwide for its quality products and innovation. The technology behind Extend is called fixed wireless, which is different from the wireless technology that supports a cellular phone. The reception is very reliable and can be compared to other fixed wireless devices in the home, such as a radio or television tuned to a local station. Also, the transmissions between Pixius and its subscribers are encrypted, so they are safe from interception.
A small device, called a subscriber module, is placed on the roof of a home or business to receive the transmission from Pixius. Ethernet cable connects the module to a router inside the building. A subscriber's computer is connected to this router.
The service works with both Windows and Macintosh operating systems, and requires no special software. Pixius technicians can install the system within a few days of order placement.
Other Internet connectivity
Pixius supports business and consumers with other standard types of Internet connectivity, including dial-up, DSL, Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) and T1 lines. Pixius also provides a number of enhanced services, including:
- Email accounts and extra accounts
- Filters to stop unsolicited commercial emails, or "spam"
- Personal web space
- Virus filters
- Travel accounts
- Web portal pages for checking email, account information
Pixius is particularly pleased with its Internet content monitoring service, which blocks objectionable web sites. Most competitors' filtering products are outdated, relying on keywords or lists of objectionable sites. This means they tend to mistakenly block desirable sites, as well. Pixius, however, uses advanced techniques that inspect each page and all its content - measuring it against predetermined levels set by individual users. The service is extremely effective and does not cause noticeable delays.
Customized database and applications solutions
Both large and small companies nationwide have turned to Pixius for its customized software solutions. Why? Pixius' expertise in database and Internet technology provides new and effective ways to interact with customers and streamline business processes.
For example, one such solution helped a major fast-food company run a better online promotion and gather valuable customer demographic data. Another helps a popular music artist implement an entirely new way to interact with his fans -- and sell his music. Yet another solution helps a major U.S. retailer plan and track the equipping of new stores.
Other applications Pixius has developed include:
- Accounts payable and receivable
- Job cost and labor reports
- Sales analysis
- Payroll
- Premium fulfillment
- Purchase order systems
- Report generation
The Pixius team is proficient in all the major scripting languages and has extensive knowledge regarding all major databases and computer platforms. The team can both develop and host applications for clients to access over the Internet.
The team helps companies turn strategy into action, providing as much -- or as little -- support as needed. They can develop and implement a project from start to finish, or simply make recommendations regarding project specifications. Support for current applications already in use also can be provided.
Network services
Pixius' network services solutions help businesses make the most of their web presence. Pixius knows that consumers expect a lot from a business web site -- and it delivers. Pixius-developed sites promote the brand, are visually appealing, and easy to use - with navigation that makes sense. The sites are developed to support a company or organization's goals, such as increased sales or increased recognition.
Pixius specializes in building sites with advanced ecommerce functionality. The company's transaction processing system helps clients easily authorize, settle and manage credit card and electronic check transactions online.
Pixius can integrate a company's web site into its other business systems. For example, an order processing and fulfillment system can be integrated into a commerce-enabled web site. Pixius can also link to accounting databases or inventory management systems. Seamless integration of key business processes saves businesses time, resources and frustration - and sets the stage for increased sales or service.
Pixius also partners with companies that have their own applications or servers. For example, Pixius can host a proprietary application on Pixius servers. Users connect to the application over the Internet. The team handles all the server administration, including server maintenance, upgrades, and back-ups.
Another proprietary Pixius network solution is its "MvInternet." MvInternet is a link between databases developed in the Pick program and the Internet. MvInternet helps developers publish Pick databases to the web with a minimal understanding of HTML, the language for building web pages. By publishing such databases to the Internet, a company's entire team can have access to important information regardless of the individual employee's location.
Another way Pixius supports business is through server co-location services. Customer servers can be housed in Pixius' data center with its constantly monitored, secure, controlled environment.
Business support services
Pixius' business support services demonstrate the company's commitment to being a technology partner. The graphic design team develops templates for companies that prefer to develop their own web sites independently. Pixius designers can also provide corporate identity, logos and multimedia products, such as web site animation.
Other Pixius products help companies save time and money. AC Update, for example, is a simple and convenient way for companies to keep databases up to date with the latest area codes.
Another innovative way Pixius supports its clients is with "PackTrax." This automated service reduces expenses for business-to-business shipping when using United Parcel Service (UPS), Federal Express and Airborne Express. By querying the carrier's own database, PackTrax identifies any packages that are delivered late. Often, these late deliveries are eligible for a refund. The software also streamlines the process of applying for a refund. The company saves shipping costs and automation takes over a manual, labor-intensive task.
