Pixius Communications completes capacity and technology upgrade in Western Butler County
WICHITA, KS – Residents and businesses in the developing area north and east of Wichita now have access to broadband Internet service that is supported by increased capacity and next generation technology. The communities served include: Andover, Arthur Heights, Augusta Municipal Airport, Bel Aire, Benton, Brookhaven, Colonel James Jabara Airport, Forest Hills, Furley, Kechi, Lakeside Acres, Lakeview Heights, Linwood Acres, Lorena, Mecca Acres, Midway, Minneha, Park East, Prairie Village, Springdale, Sunset Acres, Tolerville, and Towanda. Fast, reliable true broadband service is available as the replacement for slow dial-up, unreliable satellite and expensive cellular connections.
“Western Butler County has long been a growth area for Pixius and after a short slowdown we are seeing resurgence. With more people seeking a rural lifestyle, we are seeing more requests for service in the area,” says Pixius Chief Executive Officer Jay Maxwell. “With these changes in the market, we felt the time was right to introduce the next generation in fixed wireless technology to the area.”
For about the same price as cable or DSL, Pixius’ fixed wireless broadband solution — called eXtendsm — provides fast and reliable Internet access. Download speeds are in the range of 4 Mbps with bursts up to 18 Mbps, depending on the service option and other factors. Upload speeds are in the range of 1.5 Mbps. These speeds are minimums, as opposed to some competitors who advertise ‘up to’ rates that are seldom achieved. The service can be tailored to meet specific business needs, including very large data transport, remote or “campus” settings and secure private networks.
“The addition of the Benton service area allows Pixius to off-load traffic from other areas, which improves service for hundreds of customers in the region,” says Maxwell. “Usage on the Pixius network has increased 50% in the past year. This level of increased demand from existing customers coupled with increasing requests for service from new households prompted the need for next generation broadband technology in the area.”
The eXtendsm wireless broadband service is marketed locally by Authorized Pixius Dealers, as well as Pixius.
Pixius’ wireless broadband was launched in Wichita, KS in late 2002 and now provides service to over 7,000 customers in Kansas and Missouri. The service is delivered via a network of more than 76 communications towers.
The service works with all types of Internet products and tools, such as Virtual Private Networks (VPN) and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and requires no special software. Pixius’ trained technicians can typically install the system within a week of order placement.
